The next BWVRA meeting will be June 20th at 7 pm at Runnymede United Church.

The topic is “The New Deal for Toronto” with guest speaker Mayor David Miller. The Mayor will speak on the federal and provincial governments’ moves on developing a new funding deal for the city. There will also be a Question and Answer session with the audience.

All members of the community are welcome to join us for this event on Monday evening!

One of the speakers at our public meeting next week (May 24th, 7pm, Runnymede United Church), will be Jennifer Keesmaat, from The Office of Urbanism. She is one of the authors of an ambitious study on the future of the commercial strip of Bloor West Village.

Ms. Keesmaat will present the document, called the Bloor West Village Urban Design Study, at the meeting. Since the study contains a lot of information, photos, and maps we want to offer you the chance to examine it in advance of the presentation.

The newly formed Bloor West Village Residents Association invites the
public to attend two upcoming town hall meetings:

• May 24th at 7 pm at Runnymede United Church on “Shaping our
  Neighbourhood”. This will be a panel discussion that touches on topics related to building a strong neighbourhood in Bloor West Village. Confirmed panelists include John Mays, an urban design writer with the Globe and Mail, City Of Toronto Planning Director Gregg Lintern, Kathy Kennedy, Chair of the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Area and Jennifer Keesmaat, from the Office for Urbanism that developed the Urban Design Study for Bloor West Village (the Visioning Study). Each panelist will give an approximately 15 minute presentation and that will
  be followed by a Question and Answer session with the audience.
• June 20th at 7 pm at Runnymede United Church on “The New Deal

Chris Holcroft, Vice Chair of the Association says, “These meetings are
being organized as part of the Association’s plan to engage the
community”. “We are working hard to be an active neighbourhood
organization that residents will want to become involved in”.

The Association has already sent out several information alerts to
members and is looking to increase its membership base. The Association
Executive is meeting regularly and has broken into 4 working groups,
including policy (which itself has 4 sub-committees), communications,
membership and operations.
