Great recap! The point of aiming for a “win, win” with the developer is a good one. Something is going to be built and the sooner resident groups accept this when something new is proposed, the sooner they can start to avoid the OMB and get a project that they may not love, but is FAR better then what the “winner take all” approach would produce. The OMB heavily favours the rich and powerful who have the bank roll to call expert witnesses to the stand. Avoiding the OMB is critical and strategies such as forcing elected representatives to “take a position” on a development only hurt chances for a favourable compromise.

Thanks for the meeting and writeup, but just to clarify a couple of points: the post talks about the "possibility" the rest of the block was in play, but in fact the entire block from the Humber west to Riverside Gardens has been bought by a single developer whom nobody has identified as yet. (The Wynns are gone).

And the car dealer appears to be a done deal as well; they're moving out in early 2009.

(Also, a minor point, but important to its owner: Billy Bob's upstairs has been closed, but the sports bar in the basement remains open).

world19.com will also be tracking what's happening at this site.
